Industry: Commercial & Residential

For: Chris Dyson Architects

Originally a garden suburb in the 17th century, Devonshire Square evolved into a formal square hosting significant buildings. Warehouses were constructed in the 18th-19th centuries, with subsequent adaptations including office conversions in the 1970s.Transitioning from hosting the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies to becoming the office headquarters of a shipping company, with plans to maintain its office function and associated ancillary rooms.

In the restoration of this Grade II listed Georgian Townhouse, CDA prioritizes the removal of later additions, meticulous restoration of historic features, and thoughtful optimization of layouts and services. This includes the reinstatement of the original courtyard space, meticulous repair of historic elements, and updating of interior fittings and services to meet modern functionality standards while safeguarding the property's historical integrity. I joined the project during Stage 4/5, tender and construction administration phase, contributing to updating drawings and schedules, particularly focusing on fire strategy, electrical layouts, sanitaryware, lighting, decoration, and door schedules. I was also responsible for the interior design and finishes throughout the building.

Team (During my involvement): Yashin Kemal (Senior Associate), Stephanie Cheung (Part II Architectural Assistant)

Look & Feel

I was responsible for the interior design and look/feel of the spaces. I selected a tapestry of rich, earthy hues: sumptuous russet browns, verdant greens, warm ochres, commanding blues, and deep maroon. These colours, both bold and understated, not only pay homage to the natural world but also accentuate the intricate Georgian details of Devonshire Square.

Technical Drawings

I worked on setting out drawings, lighting, sanitary and decoration schedules independently with rounds of reviews with the client and lead project Architect. This issuance clarifies the mounting heights of devices and gives a sense of scale to the lighting that was selected by the client.

Context & Sketches

The drawings are by Chris Dyson and included for context. The site/progress images are taken on site as part of weekly construction administration.
