How do we create an occupiable space that is 15° warmer for less than $20?

January 2015 (One week project)

Insulation blankets, rubbish bags, tape & wood

200cm x 200cm

Project built in collaboration with Yoonseo Cha & Elie Boutros (Professor Aleksandr Mergold, Cornell University)

The project involves the creation of an installation that mediates the temperature between the outside and its interior, the project was budgeted and the space must be at least 15 degrees warmer than the outside. The project made use of the existing vents on campus. We trapped the hot air expelled by the vents, thus making large inflatable blanket rooms for three inhabitants. The interior spaces were made warmer with silver insulation blankets which also gave the project a nice, mirrored accent.

We designed and built this together, I thought of the idea of using the hot air from vents to insulate the space. I also designed the connection detail between the structural frames.
